Lá em Casa

What they say

“Our family has been working for almost five decades to preserve and promote Amazonian cuisine with its products and traditions. All our river fishes are unfarmed. We source sustainable products, accepting their ‘imperfections', from small agricultural producers or extractive communities, who live in harmony with the natural environment. We see cooking as an opportunity to serve traditional Amazonian dishes and surprise customers with

Signature Dishes

Roasted duck boiled in tucupi sauce; maniçoba (cassava leaves milled and boiled with pork cuts); and filhote (Amazonian fish) with Brazilian nut sauce.

What we say

Opened in 1972, now located in a renovated old docks warehouse in Guajará Bay in the Amazonian city of Belém, restaurant Lá em Casa was founded by the late Paulo Martins, who became an ambassador of local flavours and culinary traditions throughout Brazil and the world. Today, in the new and bigger location, his widow and daughters continue to lead the restaurant he opened with his mother at home. The menu offers an array of surprising and wonderful flavours of huge Amazonian river fishes, countless forest fruits and roots, and indigenous nuts and herbs – all obtained through fair trade and ethical sourcing from local communities and organizations.
