The Jumble Room

What they say

“The food is simple and superb, uncompromising in quality, nothing but the best, freshest, local, and, if possible, organic ingredients. Unfussy, skillfully married by Chrissy and the team.

“The experience, our restaurant, is about great food; soul food. Conversation, chatter, music, life, and enjoying time with friends, it’s a collection of the senses. And yes, the food is great!”

Signature Dishes

Pork and Morecambe shrimp shumai; Persian lamb rump; and Malaysian seafood curry.

What we say

This small stone eighteenth-century cottage opened as a restaurant in 1996 in the hands of two people who just wanted to project their love of the locale into a room and onto a plate. Twenty years on, they have both a vigorously enthusiastic local clientele to keep them ticking over and pilgrims from all over the world booking months in advance for their little slice of heaven.

What others say

“This is the heartiest, happiest restaurant in the Lakes, squashed into a corner cottage in Grasmere and serving hearty plates of stilton crostini, Lebanese lamb and pumpkin risotto. The food is as eclectic as the decor, a mad melange of country kitchen, 1950s kitsch and tart’s boudoir.” The Times
