“We are passionate about serving homestyle Bengali food. In terms of the environment, we have a vast selection of vegetarian items and use terracotta plates and bowls along with banana leaves, which are all biodegradeable. Most of our products are locally sourced from markets, and we only use local fish and seafood from rivers and ponds.”

When it first opened two decades ago Kewpie’s was a phenomenon. Though Kolkata is full of restaurants, hardly anyone had ever tried to serve authentic Bengali food, arguing that nobody would want to spend money on food they could get at home. But Kewpie’s proved that some homes have better food than others!
In no time at all, this small family-managed restaurant was packed to capacity as people lined up for owner Rakhi Dasgupta’s shrimps in coconut milk and her robust mutton curries. There are other places like Kewpie’s now, but this is still the best. It is run like a home kitchen would be. The ingredients are seasonal and the fish comes from the local fish market.
