El Retiro

What they say

“We are delighted to cook with the ingredients provided by the land. Here in eastern Asturias, you can find vegetables, freshwater fish, seafood, and good meat. You could say that our cuisine is local almost by accident. Our drinks menu features a lot of cider, which is very popular in Asturias, and we offer a wide variety, always supplied by local producers. Guests can choose between regular cider, brut cider, or ice cider, and raise a toast to the region.”

Signature Dishes

Oysters with cider vinegar and citrus sauce; squid tartar and broth; and asturcelta suckling pig with seaweeds and sprouts.

What we say

El Retiro is a small one-Michelin-star restaurant that invites guests to relax and enjoy good cooking. Ricardo Sotres cooks surrounded by his family and creates a warm and cosy atmosphere. From the homemade bread and butter, impossible to turn down, everything feels like it was made with care and attention. Seafood and mountain delights mix naturally, as in the gochu asturcelta – pig – ear and prawn stew, or in the octopus and pig trotters casserole. The restaurant also takes advantage of the wonderful cheeses produced here, the magnificent free-range eggs, and the vegetables and fruits from gardens located just a few metres away. Country life is sometimes the best life, especially when it comes to food. Ultimately, Sotres seeks to interpret his region gastronomically – and it certainly pays off.
