Backyard

What they say

“We draw our inspiration from Sonoma County, with all of its amazing orchards, farms, ranchers, foragers, and fishermen. Every fruit, vegetable, and animal is grown, raised or linecaught locally with the most ethical sustainability practices. We also grow our own produce at our farm, Bee Run Hollow. Our restaurant has a very casual atmosphere, with a focus on classic technique and craft. We always strive to support all dietary needs. Our menu highlights this by offering a wide range of dishes: there are always vegan and gluten-free items to allow for every guest to have a memorable experience.”

Signature Dishes

Fried chicken; pickle plate; charcuterie board.

What we say

Tiny Forestville has become a favorite destination for in-the-know diners thanks to the charms of Backyard, the friendly, affordable, and deeply flavorful restaurant run by the husband-and-wife team of Daniel A. Kedan and Marianna Gardenhire.

The couple’s menu hews closely to the seasonal, local, and sustainable, with many ingredients coming from their own farm. One of Backyard’s yearround calling cards is its buttermilk fried chicken. Depending on when you visit, you might also find wild linecaught vermillion rock cod with stewed carrots, braised radishes, and almond pesto, or, at lunch, a robust bacon and kimchi grilled cheese or equally hearty meat-free mushroom Reuben.

Desserts, like the chocolate budino with salted caramel and sweet cream, are also not to be missed, while the back patio – befitting the restaurant’s name – is one of the nicest in Sonoma County.
