Adding to the Volume of Good: Giving Back

Each week we highlight restaurants demonstrating truth and love with amazing, inspiring and selfless acts that make the world just that little bit better.

  1. Kahumana Organic Farm and Café (USA): Hawaii-based Kahumana Organic Farm and Café leads a twenty-four-month transitional housing program for homeless families that supports them in finding long-term employment and permanent housing.

  2. Roots (New Zealand): Christchurch’s Roots created EatNZ, a national collective of New Zealand chefs, producers, media, tourism and event operators, who are inspired to promote and champion the best local food, drink and culinary tourism opportunities.

  3. Greasy Zoe’s (Australia): Greasy Zoe’s supports local creators – everything in the restaurant, from the crockery and glassware to the table tops, napkins and artwork – was made locally.

  4. Blanchette (UK): Every year on Pancake Day, Blanchette supports its local primary school – and celebrates the pancake – by cooking students pancakes for breakfast.

  5. Alphabet Café (Australia): Brisbane eatery Alphabet Café makes a monthly ‘Karma Kake’ where people nominate how much they pay per slice. All money earned is donated to a charity of the café’s choosing.

  6. Bombay Canteen (India): ‘Canteen Class’, an interactive platform for hospitality students in Mumbai, is run by Bombay Canteen each month. The initiative enables students to engage and have no-holds-barred conversations with food and beverage professionals.
