“We are passionate about offering an affordable, casually elegant experience that demystifies the world of wine. Our wine selection process for the restaurant and market is rigorous. We’ve curated a list by tasting everything and making sure each bottle is something we would personally enjoy drinking. The list focuses on traditionally-made estate wines that are organic and biodynamic – that means no intervention and the people growing the grapes are making the wine. The majority of our wine selection represents Old World wines.”
Avocado toast with grilled bread, pistachios, pistachio oil, and sea salt; duck confit with blackberry gastrique, sautéed nettles, and lambs quarter; roasted rainbow carrots glazed in local honey and topped with fennel pollen.
Spanning an upstairs dining area, a downstairs bar, and a tempting market, this 14th Street mainstay has been filling Washingtonians’ wine glasses for over a decade. The outstanding wine list has always been the spot’s main draw, chockfull of delicious organic and biodynamic wines across fifty pours by the glass and 250 bottles. Now, owners Diane Gross and Khalid Pitts are getting into the winemaking business themselves: beginning in 2018, Cork’s produced-onsite rosé – made with Virginia-grown grapes – will be available on draft in the market and restaurant.
“While the upstairs dining area keeps pushing vintage pours picked by the wine-obsessed Gross, the casual downstairs bar has the flexibility to offer experimental wines (Canary Islands varietals, anyone?) and accommodate curious customers during the day.” –Tierney Plumb, Eater Washington DC
