“Locally grown and sourced food is the cornerstone of our restaurant. We take that a step further with our commitment to our local community and dedication to various nonprofits. HomeGrown is a green-certified restaurant and we take that very seriously, composting pre and post-consumer, minimizing our impact in cooking practices, and being highly conscientious of the purchases we make. We are also living-wage certified and take care of our people. This isn’t an easy industry, but we do our very best to make sure HomeGrown gives back to the community who supports us and that we support the folks that make HomeGrown.”

Acknowledged as a local-foods leader in a community that takes local food seriously, HomeGrown now has two locations offering a chalkboard menu hailed by residents and visitors alike. While the restaurant is known for its natural, cage-free, small-farm-raised chicken, fried in GMO-free canola oil from North Carolina, it also strives to serve healthier options, such as trout from a sustainable local farm that feeds their fish a diet containing no mammal byproducts.
“Some restaurants are darlings of the national press. Others are local haunts, jealously kept from the public. For much of HomeGrown’s eight years serving a comfortable Southern menu of mostly local food, it’s been the latter.”
