News: other things you need to know
- Over $51,000 was raised from Ben Shewry’s (Attica, Melbourne, Australia) bake sale fundraiser for victims of the mosque attack in Christchurch, New Zealand. One hundred per cent of the proceeds were donated to Victim Support New Zealand. “It’s important that New Zealand knows how loved it is by Australia, not just now when the whole country is in mourning but for the future too,” Shewry wrote on Instagram. “Acceptance is the ability to see that others have a right to be their own unique persons. This includes the ability to worship in safety.”
- This month French Broad Chocolates (Asheville, North Carolina, USA) opens the doors to its new creamery. The team have been hard at work revamping a former factory into a working creamery that will highlight their hand-made ice creams, cookies, brownies, and desserts, as well as the quality ingredients used. The creamery opening comes after the business welcomed a new factory and café in February.
- Chef Brandon Winn of Webster House (Kansas City, Missouri, USA) works with Cultivate Kansas City to support New Roots for Refugee, an organization that helps refugees integrate into Western society by assisting them with making connections, finding jobs, and learning how to budget. Most recently, Chef Winn hosted a three-course ‘whiskey dinner’ benefit in March to support the organization.
