The Root Cafe

What they say

“Local sourcing is at the core of everything we do. We buy from local farmers and producers to showcase the great food and drink available in Arkansas. Building community is the reason we do it, because it brings people together, benefits the environment and the local economy, and offers transparency that leads to stronger relationships. Our incredible staff is how we do it. We’re dedicated to paying a living wage, fostering a culture of respect and inclusion, and making The Root Cafe a place where people love to come to work and have opportunities for personal growth and expression.”

Signature Dishes

Homemade drop biscuits and gravy with two eggs; “The Burger” with house garlic mayo, Dijon, grilled onions, dill pickle, and local spring mix; smoked shiitake mushrooms with cornbread, pickled purple hull pea relish, and braised local greens.

What we say

Local. Community. A meal at The Root Cafe delivers more than good food. Having expanded from a dairy barn café to a full-scale restaurant (with the use of shipping containers), it is now a community hub that also supports its hometown. Seventy-seven percent of The Root’s ingredients are sourced from more than fifty area farms, making the dishes – many vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free – thoughtful, intentional, and delicious.

What others say

“Set in an old dairy bar, beside a vest-pocket garden plot, the restaurant leverages a back-to-the-land sensibility rooted in free love and home canning.” –John T. Edge, Garden & Gun
