“We really want to surprise people with the quality of the food and drink on offer, and we want to make sure we have taken into account our impact on both the environment and the people who work with us. Most of the food we serve is locally sourced – the fish is landed here in Brighton, the meat is organic and local, the milk, the organic eggs. We balance the needs of the team, our guests, the business, and our suppliers. When that happens we end up with great, happy people serving up delicious food that we are all proud of... and that makes our customers smile.”
Despite being well-known (and three-star SRA-rated) for its organic hamburgers, Lucky Beach Cafe has reduced its reliance on meat over the last three years to the point that they now sell more vegetarian food than carnivorous.
They’ve just introduced burgers where the organic patty is mixed with fifty per cent mushroom, and this summer they launched an “impossible” burger, which has a plant-based patty – the first time this has been available outside of London. With so many vegetarian and vegan restaurants in Brighton, it is great to see the virtues of plant-based food being preached to the as-yet-unconverted.
