“Provenance of carefully selected produce, quality of preparation in the kitchen, an informal environment, and attentive, friendly service are all key to our success. This is a destination restaurant, one not to be overlooked. We pride ourselves on great quality food with incredible service from happy people. Our wine list works with old-world winemakers, ideally organic and biodynamic. We love working with charities such as Pink Plates, Shelter, and StreetSmart.”
Nettle gnudi with sage butter; summer tomato tonnato; and homemade casarrece with Romano courgettes and pistachio pesto.
We went when this place first opened and were dazzled by the superb quality of the pizzas from the super-sexy pizza oven, the aroma and heft of their homemade charcuterie, the glorious lobster salad, and the best arancini we had ever eaten. But when we gently enquired about their recycling policy, they admitted they didn’t have one. We were aghast!
But that was 2012 – less enlightened times, even in Hackney – and all that has changed. Now they ensure that all their paper and glass waste is recycled. All takeaway containers are recycled cardboard, cutlery is from recycled plastics, and they use only paper straws and bags. Welcome to the fold.
“... have just eaten the best pizza in London in living memory. It’s the spicy seafood pizza @lardolondon – ordered without the mozzarella. I suggest you do likewise.”
