“Beautiful, simple, produce-led seasonal food and exceptional, attentive service in a characterful building where you are greeted with an astonishing array of beautiful flowers. We are blessed with the producers we get to work with, who farm and grow and produce in almost every county in the British Isles. One example is Fern Verrow, the biodynamic farm in Hereford. We are working with the SRA to help lower our carbon emissions and lessen our environmental impact.”
Smoked eel sandwich; baked salsify with Parmesan; and chocolate profiteroles.
The takeover of this famous and beautiful old restaurant by the visionary Hart brothers, Sam and Eddie, and the installation in the kitchen of Chef Jeremy Lee, with all his extravagant genius, was the best thing to happen in Soho for a generation and arguably kick-started its gastronomic revolution over the last decade. The space is pale, breezy, and sexy, the cocktails are top hole, the brothers – when they are there – are charm personified, and Jeremy’s cooking is in a class of its own when it comes to doing extraordinary things with the best of British produce. His eel sandwiches deserve a restaurant – indeed a whole chain of restaurants – all of their own.
“Lee is one of those rare phenomena in the London food world: a chap everyone agrees is a good thing.” –Jay Rayner, The Guardian
